French Guiana and French West Indies are the French territories that are located in the intertropical area of the American continent. The diversity of their ecosystems as well as a rainy climate expose to a large panel of infectious diseases. Migration and tourism in these territories partly account for the increase of epidemic diseases and/or emerging pathogens. These “tropical” diseases may require critical care management. We report recent data on tropical diseases (except HIV infection) in these areas as well as their diagnosis and treatment strategies. This can be helpful for doctors coming to work in French Guiana and French West Indies.
