Despite the well-known advantages of enteral nutrition in intensive care patients, a delay in gastric emptying is often observed and precludes delivery of full nutritional support by the enteral route. This article focuses on the place and choice of digestive promotility agents for improving tolerance of enteral nutrition during critical illness. A comprehensive and individualized approach is proposed.
