Abstract

Acute kidney injury is a frequent issue among critically ill patients, responsible for serious short and long-term outcomes. AKI diagnosis is tricky as it relies on repeated measurement of creatinine and urine output, values that can both be biased. However, assessing acute kidney injury is essential to prevent further worsening of renal function and its consequences. This paper thus clarifies the different ways to assess renal function in critical care and how to carefully interpret them.
