The interaction between the “health of our planet” and that of its inhabitants, based on a stable climate, preserved biodiversity and respected resources, is a major one. Resuscitation care in particular contributes to the consumption of energy and single-use devices, as well as to the production of waste.
Responsible citizenship is about the “ethical allocation of scarce resources”. This is possible, and could be summed up under the term “degrowth” in care, not in terms of efficiency or means, but in terms of fair and appropriate care, including at lower environmental cost. This objective of sobriety does not close the door on progress, which would henceforth be centered on the real needs of citizens, and would be based on the integration of the finiteness of our resources and the need for them to be available to all. The discussion of any prescription in the light of its possible uselessness should be a key element of quality medical practice. In many respects, this objective of quality of care defended at individual level will contribute to a better collective quality of care for health needs.
