Abstract

The fear that tomorrow, multiresistant pathogenic bacteria would escape any antibiotic treatment is widely accepted. Preserving the old existing antibiotics and promoting new ones are both critical concerns. However, developing new molecules is far from being completed. The past ten years saw the availability of poorly evaluated antibiotics, more or less interesting and too often burdened with the mention: “Should be used only if no other appropriate alternative exists”. For the upcoming years, about sixty molecules are undergoing different phases of development. There are listed in this article. However, only three among these new antibiotics are currently being launched in Europe, and the future three or four years promise to be worse regarding antibiotics renewal.
