Abstract

Ionic dialysance is a method that can assess the dose of hemodialysis defined by the amount of urea removal. Its principle relies on the online monitoring of conductivity, directly measured in the circuit of the dialysis generator by integrated software. Ionic dialysance is reliable, easily available, economic and recommended by official guidelines in chronic intermittent hemodialysis. In critically ill patients with acute renal failure, ionic dialysance can also be used under certain conditions to assess the dose of hemodialysis using the Kt/V equation or the Kt product.
