Abstract

The discomfort during noninvasive ventilation is one of the causes for failure of this treatment. Even if material and settings are optimized, few patients remain uncomfortable. In these cases, if benefit risk ratio is favorable to noninvasive ventilation, sedation may be used. Sedation of patients on noninvasive ventilation is a challenge for ICU teams. The aim of this short review is to discuss different ways to optimize comfort of ICU patients on noninvasive ventilation.
