Abstract

Diaphragmatic dysfunction is a harmful consequence induced by mechanical ventilation (MV). This respiratory weakness leads to weaning difficulties. Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) seems to be relevant for increasing patient’s inspiratory muscular capacity and improving weaning from MV. The literature recently published promotes the interest of IMT in intensive care unit to improve weaning for patients with inspiratory muscles weakness and presenting weaning difficulties. However, IMT is not frequently used yet, although this technique is easy and requires little equipment.
