Abstract

The Maastricht III category of potential organ donors depicts the persons whose death occurs after a cardio-circulatory arrest. The implementations of such donation after circulatory death category III (DCD3) are now being allowed in France (Leonetti and Claes-Leonetti laws) after the Withdrawal of Life Support Therapy. Due to local dynamism with organ transplantations and local experience with other kinds of organ donations, Nantes University Hospital has become one of the DCD3 certified French hospitals. A close collaboration between the specific dedicated organ donation team and the critical care unit made this experiment possible. We report here on the basis of practical aspects as well as on the nurses’ feedback with such DCD3 donations.
