Lung transplantation is nowadays a suitable procedure for end-stage respiratory insu ciency. Postoperative course depends
on indication, procedure, intraoperative and postoperative complications. Postoperative complications are mainly primary graft
dysfunction due to ischemia-reperfusion phenomenon, bacterial pneumonia, and acute cellular and/or humoral rejection. These
complications account for an attributable mortality of 10% during the fi rst month in transplant recipients. A multidisciplinary
approach is mandatory during this period.
