Abstract

Respiratory support in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been developing since these last years. Algorithms of ARDS patient management have been set up. However, the therapeutic response should be adapted to the type of SDRA. Technical requirements vary in relation to the predominant therapeutic objectives: oxygenation, decarboxylation or both. Current technical improvements, in conjugation with better evidenced utilization of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation will contribute to improve ARDS prognosis.
