Abstract

Nutrients and nutrition may alter the inflammatory response during acute respiratory distress syndrome. Early enteral nutrition is a major challenge requiring to be delivered based on protocols to reduce gastrointestinal side-effects. However, the role of immunonutriments remains debated. Nutritional support should be prolonged after weaning from mechanical ventilation and discharge from the intensive care unit.
