Abstract

The intensive care setting requires that patients be guaranteed impeccable quality and safety of care. This must be based on a culture of risk management that is itself part of a culture of service whose purpose is to be able to offer patients a plan that meets their wishes. As the human factor is paramount in this approach, focusing on improving quality of life and working conditions (QoLWC) helps to improve the quality and safety of care (QSC). Approaches based on the ethical values of care, such as participatory processes or reflection on ‘appropriate care’, contribute to the establishment of an ethical climate that's contribute to the joint improvement of QoLWC and QSC.
